The Confidence Code

I am attacking my list of books to read with gusto and just finished The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman.

I can, by no means call myself as lacking in confidence or assertiveness. After all, look at the tag line of this blog. But reading this book, I had so many ‘OMG, that’s me!’ moments, it was spooky.

My key takeaways from the book:

  1. Do More, Think Less.
  2. Perfectionism keeps us from action. So just do it.
  3. Fail fast/ early.
  4. When in doubt, act.
  5. Praise progress, not perfection. (Definitely, something to apply while raising ToddlerT.)
  6. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. – for negative feedback!
  7. Say it like you mean it.
  8. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Aka practice, practice, practice.

The book contains many insights into the different aspects of confidence, how women and men display the trait, the way our gender shapes how we think (more accurately  how women overthink), how we communicate and even how we succeed. With an interesting blend of studies, examples, anecdotes, the book provides ways for women to overcome the barriers to supreme confidence in our lives and careers. Extremely well written and enlightening.
